A new microscope has been developed that is ideal for use in the developing world. The Newton Microscope, a low-cost, compact and highly portable device, will be launched in March 2012. The miniaturisation of the device is accomplished by the optical folding of the light path between the specimen and the eye-piece; three mirrors are used to turn the image through three dimensions.
