Around the world, six million people seek medical help each year for burns. These patients often spend long periods in hospital, up to a month in the most serious cases. One reason for this is that damaged skin can take a very long time to heal. Avita Medical has come up with a device to speed up the healing process using the regenerative properties of skin. The device uses an enzyme to separate the cells from a healthy patch of skin, which are then sprayed onto the affected area. The cells then multiply and a new layer of skin starts to grow.
