In Bangladesh a child dies every 30 minutes from drowning. With about 10,000 sq km of rivers, ponds and rice paddies, more children die from drowning than diseases. Despite this, many boys don’t learn to swim until they are teenagers and few girls are taught at all. UNICEF and other partners began training local people how to teach swimming and rescue techniques and so far, 35,000 boys and girls have benefited.
